Our day-care centre for children is attended by 75 children at the ages of three years until school age and is separated in three groups. Per group two specialists are available. We are a regular kindergarten with childcare over lunchtime. Our kindergarten is stands in sponsorship with the Catholic Church Maria Magdalena in Bochum-Wattenscheid-Höntrop.
For the St. Martin's festival in November 1997 we decided to share just as St. Martin did. Through aa/D a partnership to a kindergarten in Dodi-Papase/ Ghana was developed. Due to the fact that toys were not available in the African kindergarten at all, the children decided to give away some of their own toys. Thereby everybody could be a little bit like "St. Martin".
Since 1997 are maintaining a partnership with the kindergarten in Dodi-Papase.
Since that time we are committed across the borders of our community by regularly supporting our partner-kindergarten in Dodi-Papase. We maintain regular exchange of letters, receive photos and teach the children the living conditions of children and people in Africa by letters and thematic backgrounds. The profit of our St. Martin's festival contributed towards the partner-kindergarten. From these donations construction work is paid, teaching material is bought and individual children in Ghana are supported (e.g. school fee). Additionally we collect donations in kind in form of light shoes, toys and stamps at all times. Through aa/D we have a contact person. He forwards the letters and organizes the transport of donations in kind.
