School partnership Münster - Dodi Papase

In 1991, the Albert-Schweitzer-Schule in Münster, which is a school for children with special needs, established a school partnership with the Mary-Theresa-School in Dodi Papase, Ghana. The Mary-Theresa-School is located close to the rain forest in the Volta region and is associated with the hospital of the Catholic mission. When 20 years ago a first contact was made between the schools, the pupils of the Ghanaian primary school still had to be taught without a roof over their heads. Schooling material was lacking, for example there was only one copy of the English book.

The management of school refers:

"Since then, the German school has been carrying out numerous activities to generate money and support the spupils in Ghana. There were project weeks, school festivals, workshops, exhibitions and documentations in film and photo, in order to familiarize the German pupils with the following concepts: partnership, understanding, cross-border learning and aid according to our understanding.

Even though the donations that have been generated by us only covered a part of the school's financial needs, it developed very well in the last years, as can be seen on the pictures. A great success has also been that a Secondary School has been established.

The pupils from Dodi Papase keep writing letters in which they tell us how thankful they are for this partnership. We share drawings, photos and letters on a regular basis. It is always interesting and joyful for our pupils when we receive mail from Ghana.

We hope that this partnership will continue to exist and flourish in the future!"
