Special Education Aid for the Mentally Challenged

EMC stands for "Education of the Mentally Challenged". The EMCGhana Project, supported by "africa action / Germany", has been working since the beginning of 2001 and emerged from the former Garden City Special School Project. It is mainly committed to establishing, promoting and expanding special education for mentally and physically disabled children and young people in Ghana.

AIMS and OBJECTIVES of the EMC Ghana Project

  • promote intercultural dialogue, especially in special needs education
  • create intercultural exchange and learning from each other when young committed Germans come to live in Ghana for some time
  • help young Germans learn about Ghana's culture
  • contribute to integrating mentally handicapped children and young people into their society
  • support local initiatives in further teacher training, school projects and social events
  • closely cooperate with Ghana's education authorities at all levels

The project depends on foreign aid to achieve these goals as the State of Ghana has only small funds in the education sector. For several years now, "africa action" / Germany has been helping with donations of money or in kind, placements of experts, the offer of further training measures, and internships. We ask you for your support.
